Huge success for Tønder Festival and Folk Spot Denmark 2013!
During the weekend 23rd – 24th of August, ROSA/Folk and Danish Roots proudly presented six Danish roots and folk music bands at the showcase, “Folk Spot Denmark 2013”, at this years Tønder Festival. Both the festival and Folk Spot Denmark turned out to be a huge success with beautiful late summer weather, lots of great music and an absolutely dedicated audience.
Tønder Festival ended up selling tickets for more than € 1.million, and Folk Spot had full house for two nights concerts in a row. Both results to be very proud of!
The Folk Spot Denmark concerts took place in The Old Mill where Tønder Festival was started in 1975, and they were seen and enjoyed by about 30 people from the international music industry, as well as quite a large number of Danish folk music enthusiasts. The foreign guest came from The Faroe Islands, Norway, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, England, Canada and The US, and they were entertained by Asynje, Tradish, Svøbsk, Trias, Nordens Tone and Fromseier/Hockings. Kunstnerisk leder for Førde Folk Festival, Hilde Bjørkum, says (our translation):
– I think that initiatives like Folk Spot Denmark is a very good idea! It is important for us who are booking concerts to experience the musicians live in front of their home audience. In our daily work we receive many hundreds of suggestions for artists every week. CDs, Spotify, Wimp, Youtube and so on, are important medias when it come to getting access to the music, but nothing compares to a real live experience in nice surroundings.
I am convinced that this kind of action “pays off”, generating more attention and more jobs for Danish musicians outside Denmark. To place Folk Spot at Tønder Festival Denmark is a good idea as well, because this way you get to experience one of Denmark’s largest festivals, and get extra musical experiences on top of everything ells.
All the Folk Spot concerts was recorded live and will be broadcasted by local and country wide radio stations in Denmark (Den 2. Radio), Scotland (Celtic Music Radio), The Netherlands (VPRO), Germany (DeutschlandRadio and Radio 98eins Greifwald), and The US (KSER 90.7, Independent Public Radio and WPKN 89,5 FM), and more to be announced.
