Basco 2013: Prizes, Prizes, more Prizes and loads and loads of Brass

– Nordic Music Prize, Ale Carr – Artist of the Year 2013 and Danish Radio Big Band

The close of 2013 has brought Danish string-band Basco into the absolute heavyweight class of the Scandinavian folk scene. Most recently, Basco was short listed for nomination for the multi-genre ”Nordic Music Prize 2014” which is a completely unheard of and ground-breaking thing to happen to a Danish folk band. In November, cittern player Ale Carr was named “Artist of the Year” at the 2013 Danish Folk Music Awards, hot on the heels of Basco’s live radio performance with the lovely ladies and gentlemen of the Danish Radio Big Band.

The last year also saw the release of Basco’s third album “The Remarkable Return of Old Man Basco” – of which there are high hopes for next years Danish Folk Music Awards, a tour with volcanic Norwegian singer Jullie Hjetland, and was kicked off with violinist and singer Hal Parfitt Murray being named “vocalist of the year” at the 2012 Danish Folk Music Awards for Basco’s second album “Big Basco”.

2014 will bring further recording, and perhaps a little secret EP or two, a tour with the Danish military brass-band ”Prinsens Musikkorps”, and loads and loads of touring.
